Emi Buendia was full of pride after receiving the fan-voted Falcon Power Player of the Season award for the 2020-21 season.
“It’s something special to receive this award," he said. "It’s been a nice season for me and the whole team.
“It’s incredible. To be with [previous Players of the Season] is amazing and they were very good, important players for the club, so it’s a pleasure for me.
“It’s very good to feel this love and [the fans] gave me this chance to win the trophy.
“We need the fans at Carrow Road and at away games. We played the last few games in the Premier League last season without fans. This season, we knew it would be tough and long and it was strange to play without them, but we know they’re supporting us behind their TVs.
“When you get relegated in a difficult season like it was, the comeback has been amazing for the whole team. The spirit in the team during the whole season is amazing. To get promoted again in the way we did it is something incredible.
“When you get the confidence like I’ve felt this year from the club, the staff and my teammates, I can make the difference. I try to be close to the ball and score more compared to last year, but I always try to give an assist. I’m pretty happy with my numbers and stats because it means I can help the team to get the title.
“In the first half of the season, we won a lot of games in a row and were sitting at the top of the table at the end of the year. That was amazing. I really enjoy every game, my goals and every victory.
"If I could change something, it would be to celebrate the day we were promoted because we wanted to win that game against Bournemouth, but we celebrated in the dressing room and on the pitch. Doing it with these guys is amazing."
With plenty to choose from, Buendia highlights two technically impressive goals as his personal favourites from this season.
“The first one I scored against Bristol City and also against Barnsley," he said. "The passes from Ben Gibson and Kenny McLean were so long, 50 metres maybe. The first one was a great touch before scoring, the second one was a first-touch finish in a difficult position.
"I also enjoyed Kieran Dowell’s goal against Huddersfield Town. The feeling after that goal was amazing because we were enjoying that game and the first half was incredible. To go into half-time 5-0 up with that goal, playing like we do at the training ground, was amazing."
So what does Norwich City mean to Emi Buendia?
“This club means a lot in my life," he said. "In my private life and football life, I grew up doing this for years. When I arrived, I received the love of everyone in the club and from the fans during these three years.
"I will always be a canary for life. I don’t know what will happen in the future but I will always support this amazing club and I enjoy every minute playing for this shirt.”
