Loan Round-Up: McCallum assists as Coventry survive

Norwich City loanee Sam McCallum was part of the Coventry City side that had their Championship survival confirmed on the weekend.

The Sky Blues beat Stoke City 3-2 at the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday night, McCallum assisting the winning goal in the 73rd minute.

Coventry then lost 1-0 at home to Preston on Saturday, McCallum playing 90 minutes, but results elsewhere ensured the club’s safety in the second tier was confirmed.

Akin Famewo also enjoyed a big win in midweek for Charlton Athletic in League One, the Addicks putting six past Plymouth Argyle without reply on Tuesday.

The centre-back also came on in the 84th minute of Saturday’s 1-0 loss at home to Peterborough United on Saturday, Nigel Adkins’ side going eighth in the division, two points away from the play-off places.

Overseas, there was another assist for a City left-back on loan, Philip Heise setting up the opening goal in Karlsruher SC’s 2-2 draw at home to Wurzburger Kickers on Friday.

Heise played 73 minutes as Karlsruher ended the weekend eighth in the 2. Bundesliga.

FC Basel stayed second in the Swiss Super League with 1-1 and 3-3 draws away to FC Vaduz and FC Lausanne-Sport respectively last week, Timm Klose playing 135 minutes across the two fixtures.

Two City loanees were held to 0-0 draws, Josip Drmic playing 71 minutes of HNK Rijeka’s stalemate at home to NK Osijek and Aidan Fitzpatrick coming on in the 61st minute of Queen of the South’s game at Ayr United on Saturday.

Finally, Tom Trybull played 68 minutes of Blackburn Rovers’ 1-0 loss at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, Tony Mowbray’s side now 15th in the Championship.
