Match Preview: Norwich City v Watford

20 April 2021

Recently promoted Norwich City face Watford at Carrow Road on Tuesday night (6pm KO) with the Championship title in their sights.

Three points would see the Canaries clinch the trophy with three games to spare.

The opposition

With 24 wins, ten draws and eight defeats from 42 league games, Watford are second in the Championship ahead of Tuesday night with 82 points.

That puts them eight shy of Norwich and six clear of Swansea City, Xisco Munoz’s side looking to firm their grip on the automatic promotion places as the end of the season approaches.

A run of eight games without defeat came to an end on the weekend as the Hornets fell to a 1-0 loss at Luton Town.

Kiko Femenia was sent off in that game and will be suspended for Tuesday’s match, as is Dimitris Giannoulis for Norwich.

Ismaila Sarr is the club’s top scorer so far this season with 12 goals in all competitions, closely followed by Joao Pedro who has nine.

Head-to-head

In the 101 meetings between Norwich and Watford since 1921, there have been 42 Norwich wins, 30 Watford wins and 29 draws.

Last time we met was on Boxing Day when Watford secured a 1-0 win at Vicarage Road thanks to Sarr’s 39th minute strike.

Watford’s previous trip to Carrow Road came in November 2019 in the Premier League, Gerard Deulofeu and Andre Gray on the scoresheet for the away side that day.

Ref watch

Tim Robinson has been appointed to take charge of Tuesday’s game, Shaun Hudson and Adam Crysell his assistants and James Linington the fourth official.

Harrington was last involved in a Norwich game for March’s 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
