Norwich City Under-18s settled for a 3-3 draw against West Ham United after a late leveller from the Hammers on Saturday afternoon.
It was a slower start for City who couldn’t quite get themselves into gear in the opening ten minutes. West Ham capitalised on that when a ball across the face of goal found George Earthy for a calm finish from the centre of the box.
However, the Canaries responded well to the goal, finding their response just 13 minutes later.
City’s press won them the ball from the Hammers high up the pitch, finding Ken Aboh on the counter with just one defender in his way. Making short work of the chance, Aboh laced the ball into the bottom corner for the leveller.
No more than a minute later, and City flipped the game entirely. Another excellent run from Aboh won the forward the ball again, making a run into the box and squaring for Oscar Thorn to smash home into an open goal.
Completely taking the momentum of the game, Thorn then made it three goals in five minutes with his shot from the edge of the box finding the bottom corner perfectly.
West Ham pulled one back just after the 30-minute mark when Earthy’s shot through a crowded City box found the bottom corner and his brace.
In an excellent first half for Aboh, the forward stole the ball high up the pitch again as he charged down the Hammers’ byline, his shot at the near post saved by the legs of Kriszhan Hegyi before half time.
The second half was a defensive one for the Canaries as they held onto their one-goal lead, staying compact and looking to counter.
The best of these counters came in the 60th minute, when a well-defended corner set City off three-on-two. The chance was a deadly one, but came to a sudden halt when the linesman’s flag was raised for an offside in the final pass.
After dealing with the pressure well, it was only a matter of time until West Ham would find a clear-cut chance. Getting himself one-on-one with Jayden St Paul, Remy Coddington chipped the ‘keeper to level.
Battling it out for the remaining 20 minutes, neither side was able to go on to find what was the winner of Saturday afternoon’s game, sharing the points at full time.
