Norwich City Under-17s bowed out of the Premier League Cup group stage after their 3-1 defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday evening.
The young Canaries started the game on the front foot, but the Foxes’ late counters would be enough to seal all three points for the hosts and see the Canaries out of the tournament.
Early chances fell for Canaries trio Harry Brooke, Brad Hills and Alex Matos, but all three couldn’t find the back of the net as the scores remained 0-0.
A quiet first half would go on to see the sides level at the break, neither team finding clear-cut chances throughout the first 45 minutes.
Matos found City’s first big chance of the second half, dragging his shot wide in the 58th minute.
65 minutes in, Leicester found their goal. Hitting City on the counter, the hosts surged toward Sam Blair in his box, slotting it past the U18s ‘keeper.
City were given a golden chance just five minutes later when Joe Duffy was brought down in the Foxes’ box. The midfielder stepped up to take the penalty but missed the target as the hosts kept hold of their lead.
With less than ten minutes to go, City found an equaliser. Coming on as a substitute, a Canaries trialist made his impact by finding the back of the net with a neat finish to level the scores.
That lead wouldn’t last for long, however. Countering the Canaries once more, Leicester found the back of the net to go ahead again in the 83rd minute.
Sealing the win, Leicester then scored their third in the 90th minute to guarantee their first-place finish in the group stages of the Premier League Cup and see the young Canaries out of the tournament.
