Match Preview: Birmingham City v Norwich City

23 February 2021

Norwich City return to St. Andrew’s following last week’s 2-0 win against Coventry City for Tuesday night’s Championship fixture (7pm KO).

Our Match Preview takes a look at Birmingham’s season so far, the officials in charge of the game and how you can follow the action from home.

The opposition

With seven wins, ten draws and 14 defeats, Birmingham are 21st in the league going into this match.

Only Sheffield Wednesday have scored fewer goals than Birmingham this season, who - alongside Wycombe Wanderers and Derby County - have scored 22 in the league.

Following January’s 1-0 win at Middlesbrough, Aitor Karanka’s side played Preston North End, Coventry, Wycombe, AFC Bournemouth, Luton Town and Millwall without victory.

However, most recently three points were earned with a 1-0 win away to Sheffield Wednesday, Scott Hogan’s second half goal the difference last weekend.

Hogan is the club’s top scorer this season with six goals in all competitions.

Head-to-head

In the 71 meetings between Norwich and Birmingham since 1963, there have been 25 Norwich wins, 23 Birmingham wins and 23 draws.

Last time we met, Mario Vrancic’s 87th minute opener sealed the three points for Norwich against a defensive Birmingham side.

As for our previous away game against Birmingham, that was at the start of the 2018-19 season, a late Onel Hernandez brace rescuing a point in that 2-2 draw.

Ref watch

Oliver Langford has been appointed to take charge of tonight’s game, Robert Merchant and James Wilson his assistants and John Brooks the fourth official.

The last time Langford saw over a Norwich game was for December’s 1-1 draw at home to Queens Park Rangers.
