Match Preview: Norwich City v Rotherham United

19 February 2021

Norwich City host Rotherham United at Carrow Road for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture (3pm KO).

Our Match Preview looks at the Millers’ season so far, the officials in charge of the match and how you can follow from home.

The opposition

With eight wins, five draws and 15 defeats Rotherham are 21st in the league at the time of writing. They do have two games in hand on the three teams above, however.

Recent form has been mixed for Paul Warne’s side, who followed defeat at Swansea City with wins against Derby County and Preston North End before being beaten by Cardiff City and AFC Bournemouth.

Michael Smith and Matt Crooks are the club’s joint top scorers in the Championship so far this season with seven goals each.

In the 37 meetings between Norwich and Rotherham since 1960, there have been 17 Norwich wins, nine Rotherham wins and 11 draws.

Last time we met, Jordan Hugill’s stoppage time penalty sealed three points for City in dramatic fashion with a 2-1 win at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

We last welcomed Rotherham to Carrow Road in December 2018, when the Canaries won 3-1 thanks to goals from Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons and Teemu Pukki.

Ref watch

Tony Harrington has been appointed to take charge of Saturday’s match, Robert Hyde and Bhupinder Gill his assistants and Alan Dale the fourth official.

Harrington last saw over a Norwich game for January’s 2-1 win at Cardiff City, Marlon Pack sent off for the hosts on that day.
