Match Preview: Norwich City v Stoke City

12 February 2021

Norwich City welcome Stoke City to Carrow Road for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at 3pm.

Our Match Preview looks at the Potters’ season so far, the officials in charge of the weekend’s game, and how you can follow the action live from home.

The opposition

With a positive record of nine wins, 12 draws and seven defeats in the league, Stoke sit ninth in the Championship ahead of the weekend on 39 points.

However, Michael O’Neill’s side are currently suffering a worse run of form than any other side in the top half, without a win in ten games in all competitions.

That began just before Christmas with Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, which was followed by draws to Coventry City, Nottingham Forest and a loss to AFC Bournemouth.

Leicester City then knocked Stoke out of the FA Cup before the Potters drew with Blackburn Rovers, Rotherham United and lost to Watford.

Most recently, Stoke have taken a point each from draws against Huddersfield Town and Reading.

Head-to-head

In the 56 meetings between Norwich and Stoke since 1960, there have been 18 Norwich wins, 21 Stoke wins and 17 draws.

Last time we met was at the bet365 Stadium in November when an impressive first half with goals from Emi Buendia and Teemu Pukki saw Norwich win 3-2, despite Buendia’s sending off and Tim Krul’s injury.

The Canaries will be looking to avoid a repeat of Stoke’s previous visit to Carrow Road, when a Timm Klose own goal separated the sides as the visitors won 1-0 in October 2018.

Ref watch

Jeremy Simpson has been appointed to take charge of Saturday's match, Graham Kane and Nigel Lugg his assistants and Tim Robinson the fourth official.

The last time Simpson saw over a Norwich game was for our 1-1 draw at Brentford towards the end of October.
