City held to a 0-0 draw at Millwall

2 February 2021

Norwich City drew 0-0 away to Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night in a game of few clear cut chances.

Daniel Farke made one forced change to his starting lineup, Przemyslaw Placheta coming in for the suspended Emi Buendia. Kenny McLean returned after recovering from COVID-19 for a spot on the bench.

Ben Thompson had the first attempt of the game, his shot from distance bouncing just in front of Tim Krul. The City 'keeper spilled the shot before catching the loose ball.

The Canaries responded moments later, Placheta firing over the bar from distance.

Krul had another comfortable save to make from Kenneth Zohore, whose dipping volley in the 11th minute was too central.

Mario Vrancic unlocked the Millwall defence at the other end to find Teemu Pukki, and the Finn looked to poke the ball beneath the onrushing Bartosz Bialkowski but was flagged for offside.

Millwall almost had their first real chance of the first half when Todd Cantwell was dispossessed in midfield, Jad Wallace collecting the ball and driving into the 18-yard box, but Grant Hanley was on hand to block the shot.

Ryan Leonard then volleyed over the bar from Scott Malone's corner.

Placheta again looked to cut in from the right wing and shoot on his left foot in the 24th minute, but this time his shot was straight at the 'keeper.

Krul made his best save of the first half one minute later, diving down to his right to deny Malone who had got a show away from inside the D.

Norwich then began to grow into the first half beyond the half-hour mark, Max Aarons coming in from the right to shoot low and wide on his left foot before Placheta had a corner headed over the bar by Vrancic.

The visitors could have taken the lead in stoppage time at the end of the first half, as Oliver Skipp found Pukki with a well-timed through ball. The latter had his initial attempt blocked and the rebound comfortably saved, however.

City looked more likely to get the game's opening goal at the start of the second half, but were wasteful with their early chances.

Grant Hanley headed wide from a Placheta corner in the 54th minute, before Pukki carried Norwich forward on the counter and found Cantwell to his left. Vrancic then showed up in support and dragged his shot wide of the post.

Millwall went close with just under half an hour remaining, Malone lifting the ball over to the far post and Zohore heading over the bar.

Cantwell then shot high and wide from distance as both sides continued to search for the opener.

The Lions continued to force Norwich into shooting from afar, Aarons firing over the bar in the 66th minute.

Norwich had their first opportunity from a free-kick in the 72nd minute when Aarons was fouled outside the area, but Vrancic shot wide of the post.

Daniel Farke introduced Kieran Dowell for Vrancic with 15 minutes to go as the Canaries continued to attack.

Millwall then had a good chance to take the lead, Jed Wallace having a shot blocked by Ben Gibson and Malone shooting wide from the rebound.

Malone then shot over the bar as Millwall began to control possession in the second half, before Onel Hernandez and Kenny McLean replaced Placheta and Lukas Rupp respectively.

Hanley kept City in it again in the 84th minute, getting his body in the way to block Matt Smith's attempted strike in the 84th minute.

Wallace almost secured a late winner for Millwall when his cross took a deflection off McLean and forced a good reflex save from Krul and it remained all square.
