Norwich City face Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship at Carrow Road on Saturday (3pm KO).
Our Match Preview takes a look at how the Tykes have turned around a slow start to the season, our historic record against them and more.
Having finished 21st in the Championship last season after being promoted from League One the season prior, Barnsley have made good progress so far in 2020/21.
Although it didn’t look that way early on, as Gerhard Struber’s side failed to win any of their first four games, losing three of them.
Following 2-2 draws against Bristol City and Stoke City, Valerian Ismael was appointed to take over as head coach and the club’s fortunes have subsequently changed for the better.
Since Ismael’s recruitment, Barnsley have won ten league games, drawn one and lost five.
The Tykes won 2-1 at Rotherham United on Tuesday, putting them eighth in the Championship ahead of the weekend.
In the 42 meetings between Norwich and Barnsley since 1922, there have been 18 Norwich wins, 10 Barnsley wins and 14 draws.
Last time we met, goals from Ollie McBurnie and Josh Murphy contributed to a 1-1 draw at Oakwell.
Our previous game at home to Barnsley was also a 1-1 draw, with Murphy again on the scoresheet and Harvey Barnes netting for the visitors that day.
Michael Salisbury has been appointed to take charge of Saturday’s match, Sam Lewis and Robert Merchant his assistants and Alan Dale the fourth official.
This season, Salisbury has officiated across the Championship, League One, League Two and Carabao Cup, making one sending off and handing out 32 yellow cards across 12 fixtures.
He has never been appointed for a Norwich game before.
