Jordan Hugill will be out for about four weeks with a torn hamstring, Daniel Farke confirmed in his pre-Middlesbrough press conference on Friday.
Strikers Teemu Pukki and Adam Idah are both now available again having been involved in team training this week.
The same can be said for Christoph Zimmermann and Xavi Quintilla, as well as Dimitris Giannoulis, who is ready to play after obtaining a work permit.
Kenny McLean remains sidelined due to the ten-day isolation period following his positive COVID test, but can return to training on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Millwall.
“Todd Cantwell is back on the training pitch after missing Barnsley,” Farke added.
“We have to be careful to predict when Marco Stiepermann is back but he’s in individual training and looks better than two or three weeks ago.
“Sam Byram is still in the rehab process and fighting to come back. It’s a serious injury so we have to be careful.”
