Kieran Dowell began pre-season in the same vein he ended the 2020/21 Championship season - scoring goals for Norwich City.
Dowell’s brace against King’s Lynn Town contributed to a solid 3-1 win at The Walks on Friday night.
“It was nice to start the game more than anything,” he said. “We’ve had a tough couple of weeks so it was nice to get back on the pitch and start the first game.
“I like to score goals and make goals so it was a nice start to get two of them early doors
“Jordan (Hugill) will say his assist for my goal is a pass but I don’t think he’s passing anytime! He’s a striker isn’t he? It’s nice to follow the run.”
Angus Gunn, Milot Rashica and Billy Gilmour were the three new signings to start the match, and Dowell was impressed with the trio at The Walks.
“Enjoyable to play with, all of them,” he said. “It will be nice to get a few games with them, get to know them. Billy only came in yesterday but him and Milot looked sharp as well, a few of the young lads too.
“The academy lads have had a couple of sessions with us and look sharp. I’m impressed with them.”
City have six more opponents to play in the next three weeks ahead of the visit of Liverpool to kick-off the Premier League, starting with Lincoln City at Lotus Training Centre on Tuesday.
“It’s just about match fitness isn’t it,” Dowel said. “You can do all the training but it’s the games where you get your match fitness, to just get as many miles in our legs as we can and get that sharpness ready for the start of the season.
“It’s a tough start but you play everyone twice don’t you! We’ll try to be as ready as possible for that.”
