Nelson Khumbeni says it is a special feeling to have signed his first professional contract at Norwich City.
Nelson has been at the club since under-9 level and has played in several positions including left-wing and striker but has settled into a central midfield role where he likes to dictate play with one and two touch football.
Speaking about signing his contract, Nelson said: “It is very pleasing, especially having been around here for a long time. I am very grateful for this opportunity.”
Having been here for a long time Nelson has seen many changes at the club’s Lotus Training Centre, with modern pitches and gym facilities being installed along with a state-of-the-art academy building.
“When I first came here there were just trees and portable cabins and as time has gone, things have developed and evolved,” he said. “You can see we have amazing pitches, the gym facility is superb, and then you can talk about the coaching staff, because everything there is great. It is good for your development around here.”
Nelson added, that having signed his first pro contract at the club, his aim over the next 12 months is to follow in the footsteps of players like Josh Martin and Andrew Omobamidele, who have recently graduated from the under-18 and under-23 sides to make their appearances for the first team.
“My next goal is to look to play more minutes,” he said. “To try and get in a couple of training sessions with the first team and get closer to the first team.”
