As the pre-season of the 2021-2022 campaign nears, we’re getting to know Norwich City Academy’s players in a bit more detail!
Next up is City striker Tom Dickson-Peters. You can watch our video below or take a look at our transcription of everything you need to know about the young forward!
How long have you been at Norwich and what’s your story behind joining the club?
TDP: “I first came here when I was Under-15s, I’m 18 now, so it’s about three years that I’ve been at the club now. I was playing at grassroots level and my agent knew Steve Weaver, then he organised a trial. Thankfully, Steve let me join the Academy!”
What position do you play?
TDP: “I play striker. I did play centre-back for a season in Sunday league!"
How would you describe yourself as a player?
TDP: “I think I’m quite an athletic striker, I like to score goals. I like to come in and move positions sometimes as well, but recently I’ve just been running in behind and it’s given me a lot of success”
Who have you known the longest at the club?
TDP: “When I first came, it was Tony [Springett], Abu [Kamara], Jaden [Warner], Saxon [Earley] and Nelson [Khumbeni]. They were all there, they’re all still here now, so I’ll say them.”
What is your biggest achievement to date?
TDP: “Playing for the club, I didn’t have a professional team before, and they let me come here and show my ability. That’s probably my best moment, getting signed.”
What has been your favourite game this season?
TDP: “Probably the 4-1 against Arsenal, that was quite an enjoyable game and beating Arsenal 4-1 is always good to do, so I enjoyed that one.”
What team did you support growing up?
TDP: “I supported Manchester United growing up. I watched them and enjoyed it, but my grandad got me onto watching Man United. He’s a Man United fan just like me.”
Who is your favourite player of all time?
TDP: “When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Cristiano Ronaldo when he was at Man United, he scored all the goals. I really liked him when I was younger, so I’d say Cristiano is my favourite.”
What would be your dream job outside of football?
TDP: “I was thinking of something to do with a clothing line, I like tracksuits. I’ve seen a couple things about it all, it seems quite interesting to me!”
What hobbies do you have outside of football?
TDP: “I like a bit of basketball as well as football, I go and shoot a couple balls sometimes, so I’d say basketball!”
Would you rather win the Champions League or the World Cup?
TDP: “Probably the Champions League, you play more club football so I think it would be very rewarding at the end of the season. I watched the 2008 final when Man United won and it had some good memories about it.”
