Andrew Omobamidele called up to Republic of Ireland Under-21s squad

18 March 2021

Norwich City centre-half Andrew Omobamidele has been called up to the latest Republic of Ireland U21s squad for their upcoming fixture against Wales U21s.

The call-up is Omobamidele’s first to the Under-21s squad, previously making appearances for the Irish national side’s U19s, where he made four appearances and scored in the Euro U19 Championship Qualifiers.

After an impressive start to the season with the Academy’s Under-23s side, Omobamidele joined the Canaries’ first-team squad. The centre-half was handed his first-team debut as a substitute in City’s 2-1 win over Cardiff City.

Omobamidele will be looking to make his first international U21 cap for the Republic of Ireland and potentially faces fellow teammate Daniel Barden for Wales U21s.

The friendly between ROI and Wales will take place at Colliers Park, Wrexham on Friday, March 26, in preparation for the UEFA U21 EURO 2023 qualifying round.
