Kieran Dowell marked his first league start in 2021 with his first league goal for Norwich City in Wednesday’s 2-0 win away to Nottingham Forest.
“I’m made up,” he said after the game. “It was a good move and we were cutting through them really well and that’s what I’ve been waiting for really, so it was really nice to get off the mark in the league.
“It’s weird, it’s been strange coming back to Nottingham altogether. I had a great time here and still know a few people here, but it’s always nice to score!
“It’s always nice to have a good start to make a good impression. Hopefully I can keep in the bosses plans now.”
Asked for his assessment on the game as a whole, Dowell noted that such a strong first half display allowed City to slow the pace of the game down in the second 45.
“We started really well, that’s one of the best games we’ve been in,” he said. “In the first half they couldn’t really live with us and two early goals gave us a great start and we really dominated. In the second half, we maybe took our foot off the gas a bit but it got us over the line.
“[The forwards] were a joy to play with to be fair. We’ve got loads of individually great players so that’s why we’re top of the league, because of the strength in depth we’ve got.
“Another goal would have definitely killed it but we felt really solid as a group and shifted over and it’s really nice to get the clean sheet too.
The three points meant that City extended their winning run to nine to go ten points clear at the top of the league, and Dowell is hungry for even more.
“It’s a great time to be on that run in the run-in at the end of the season. Hopefully we can get another win before the international break which will take us to 85 and then we’ve got to keep going and keep the momentum up.”
