Loan round-up: Famewo helps extend Charlton's unbeaten run

22 March 2021

Norwich City loanee Akin Famewo had a good week at Charlton Athletic as, despite a change in manager, he started both of the Addicks’ matches as they stretched their unbeaten run to six games.

Having started the previous six matches for the club, Famewo played the full 90 minutes for caretaker boss Johnnie Jackson as Charlton recorded a 3-2 win at home to Bristol Rovers on March 16 and then backed that up with another full game in a 2-2 draw at AFC Wimbledon, which was new manager Nigel Adkins’ first game in charge. The four points gained kept the London side firmly in the hunt for promotion with them sitting in sixth.

In the Championship, Sam McCallum played a full 90 minutes for Coventry City as they recorded a 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, while Tom Trybull came on as a 70th minute substitute for Blackburn Rovers last Wednesday as they drew 0-0 at home to Bristol City. However, he was, of course, not eligible to play against Norwich City as Rovers picked up a point from their match with us at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Timm Klose also played a full 90 minutes in defence for FC Basel as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Lugano. The loss saw Basel drop to fourth in the table, behind their opponents, following one win from their last five games.

Philip Heise helped to keep Karlrusher SC’s unbeaten run going in the 2. Bundesliga as they picked up a point in a 2-2 draw with SC Paderborn. KSC are fifth in the table, seven points off the league leaders Hamburger SV.

Over in Croatia, Josip Drmic scored the opening goal in HNK Rijeka’s 3-1 victory away at Slaven Belupo on March 17, and then played 75 minutes in the 2-0 victory over NK Varazdin on Sunday. Rijeka are now fourth in the Croatian topflight.

Louis Thompson made a substitute appearance for MK Dons as they recorded a 2-1 win over in-form Burton Albion. Russell Martin’s side have now won three games on the spin, a run of form that has lifted them to 13th in the table.

Aidan Fitzpatrick also made a substitute appearance for Queen of the South, but they lost 2-1 away at Greenock Morton. The result has dropped QoS to sixth in the Scottish Championship.
