On their travels again, Norwich City Under-23s take on Reading U23s at Bearwood Park Training Ground this Friday (1pm KO).
The young Canaries have moved up in the table since last week’s game against Middlesbrough, surpassing the opposition as they beat them 3-0 at Heritage Park.
Now sitting ninth in the Premier League 2 table, City look to close the gap on Fulham, who sit just two points ahead.
Picking up three points this Friday isn’t an easy ask, however. Reading are fifth in the table, taking up the last play-off spot for potential promotion to Premier League 2 Division 1 with 25 points.
But with just five points separating fifth from ninth, the league continues to show anything can happen in this narrow table.
Last week’s win over Middlesbrough was a big one for David Wright’s side, the Canaries taking a 3-0 win. A quiet first half left it all to play for in the last 45 minutes, Marco Stiepermann dispatching a penalty in the 63rd minute.
From there, a classy team goal from Rob Nizet and a tidy finish from Josh Giurgi saw the game out for the final whistle, giving City their first win in eight games.
It was a memorable result in the last meeting between the Canaries and the Royals, City taking a dominant 3-0 win in their first game of the 2020-2021 season thanks to goals from Andrew Omobamidele, Danel Sinani and Josip Drmic.
