Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell described the Canaries’ 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday as a spirited one after coming back from behind to take all three points.
Ex-City striker Jordan Rhodes found the back of the net early on, but two excellent finishes from Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell saw the Canaries take all three points.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Cantwell said the result was a product of a whole team effort, saying they all showed plenty of character to inspire the comeback.
“We had to show a lot of character today after not starting the game as bright as we’d like to, you’re not always going to play brilliantly for every minute, so I think the second half reaction was a real credit to everyone out there.
“I think they started well; it wasn’t just us not being able to get started. They were compact, them getting an early goal didn’t help, but I think the second half it was just the most important bit of showing character and a bit of heart to build on the foundations of pressing high. Ultimately, we managed to turn the game around.
“They had a bit of a gameplan and them scoring early probably helped them a lot, so it’s a real credit to everyone in the changing room for turning it around.”
Speaking on his wonderfully taken goal, the midfielder said he was relieved to see his self-belief pay off with a beautiful finish.
“I had one at the start of the second half I should’ve done better with, I could’ve taken a few more touches but I thought should I just take the one, I backed myself and luckily it went in!”
Finally, looking ahead to Wednesday’s fixture against Nottingham Forest, Cantwell gave reassurance, saying the squad remain fully focused on every game after such a combined team effort at Hillsborough Stadium.
“We all know the games are quick and fast and all the games are very competitive, so we’re just fully focusing on Wednesday.
“It was a good mood in the dressing room, I think it was a well hearted performance, you could hear everyone, even on the bench. It was a proper team effort today and that’s what you need sometimes.”
