Enjoy the moment. That’s the message from Kenny McLean, who celebrates his second promotion with Norwich City this weekend.
“It’s hard to put into words,” he said, discussing the winning of the title. “It’s been a long old season, a grind at times but I don’t think anyone can take this away from us. No arrogance or disrespect to anyone else but we’re the best team and nobody will argue that.
“We got promotion a couple of weeks ago and finished the job today. You don’t want to speak about it at the start of the season, when you get relegated it’s hard but it’s shown because not a lot of teams come straight back up.
“We knew we had so much quality in this changing room, it was just about going to deliver it week after week. We continued to produce and the quality we’ve shown has been outstanding at times. There were a few bumps in the road along the way but we got the job done.
“Stuart and the boss, they know what kind of player and person to bring in. Hugill and Gibson have really enhanced us and made us better on and off the pitch. They’ve been outstanding. It’s been a pleasure, honestly. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.
“I don’t know how Reading have found themselves outside the top six. They should be in there because they’re a good team. We should have been behind in the first half. We knew that and addressed that and came out in the second half and showed what we’re all about.
“When we play like that at this level we’re tough to stop and I think we’ve shown that too much this season for a lot of teams.
“A lot of players who were in the Premier League were still here and you don’t forget that feeling when relegation happens - the hurt that everybody felt - you don’t want that in your career and we’ve felt that.
“We trust what Stuart and the manager will do over the summer. Whatever that brings, it will make us better. We’ll enjoy this moment but when that comes we’ll be ready.
“We’ll enjoy it. You’ve got to. Players go through unbelievable careers without winning a title. Enjoy this for what it is. For Tetts, this is his third promotion. A lot of us won it a couple of years ago. You need to enjoy these moments because they don’t come around often.”
