Loan Round-Up: Goals galore with 11 Canaries in action

3 May 2021

Last week was a busy one for Norwich City’s loanees, Akin Famewo playing the most minutes as he registered 180 across Charlton Athletic’s double-header.

They drew 2-2 at home to Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday, Famewo getting the assist for the Addicks’ second goal. That was followed by a 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Charlton are now eighth in League One, four points behind the play-off places with two games to go.

Just behind them are Milton Keynes Dons, who cannot get enough points to finish in the play-offs following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town, where Louis Thompson returned from injury to come on in the second half.

There was one goal scored by a City loanee last week, Josip Drmic equalising in HNK Rijeka’s 3-2 loss at Hajduk Split on Saturday. Rijeka are now fourth in the 1. HNL.

The game of the week, however, has to go to Harrogate Town v Cambridge United. Norwich City Academy player William Hondermarck played 90 minutes against Canaries legend Wes Hoolahan as Harrogate came away with a remarkable 5-4 win to go 16th in League Two.

As for clean sheets, Philip Heise kept one as Karlsruher SC drew 0-0 at home to FC Erzgebirge Aue on Monday. Karlsruher are now eighth in the 2. Bundesliga.

Waasland-Beveren drew 1-1 away to RFC Seraing in the crucial first leg of the Belgian Second Division play-off final, Danel Sinani playing 90 minutes. The second leg takes place on Saturday.

Also involved in a 1-1 draw was Sam McCallum, as Coventry City were held by Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium. Coventry are 17th in the Championship and safely in the division for next season.

Returning overseas, Timm Klose played the first half of FC Basel’s 1-0 win at home to St. Gallen on Saturday to stay second in the Swiss Super League.
