Adam Idah scores in Ireland Under-19s 3-1 victory

Adam Idah scored for the Republic of Ireland Under-19s in their opening game of UEFA Under-19 Championships Elite Round qualifying, winning 3-1 against Bosnia & Herzegovina at the Longford City Calling Stadium.

The Norwich City striker carried on from where he left off with Ireland Under-17s, continuing his fine goalscoring form for his national side.

Republic of Ireland manager, Tom Mohan, said: “There was some great finishes from our players. The goals came at important times.”

Idah was a constant threat throughout for the Boys in Green, going close on three occasions in the first half, but was unable to get past Bosnian goalkeeper Adnan Kanuric.

The 17-year old had his efforts finally rewarded, a classy finish from inside the box gave Ireland a 3-0 lead with 15 minutes to go.

Bosnia pulled a goal back in the final stages, but Idah’s Ireland held out to win 3-1 and get the qualification process off to a winning start.

Next up for Idah and Ireland is the Faroe Islands on Saturday, October 13 (15:00) before rounding off the international break against the Netherlands on Tuesday, October 16 (13:00).

All games will be played at the Longford City Calling Stadium.
