Tettey, who made his 200^th appearance for the Club during the game against Blackburn Rovers today, said he knew they could turn the match into another win.

“We are very happy,” he said. “I think the longer the game went on we felt like we had enough to win. We got a good break, a good ball through to Onel and he found Pukki who scored and we saw it through.

“We were desperate to keep a clean sheet and we knew we had the quality to score when we had the chance.”

City faced a hugely physical game at Ewood Park, which Tettey said made it difficult to play in their usual style.

He said: “We started the game very well and pinned them in their half. I think the second half was more like a typical Championship game and not how we want to play, but it’s very important to stand up to the task and fight through it and finally we got a goal. Sometimes it’s like this in the Championship and you have to just see it through.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game and we wanted to get a clean sheet, because in the recent games we’ve been scoring three or four goals but we’ve been letting in two or three as well, so it was very important to not let them score today.”

Teemu Pukki once again saw home a late winner, and Tettey said the hard work they put in at Colney each week helps the team to fight for the full 90 minutes.

“We train very hard during the week and I think we are seeing the benefits of how we train and we are taking it to the games,” he said.

“The boys are fit and regardless of if it’s a tough game, we are up for it. If it is a game where the quality is high, we are passing and moving and we are up for it, so I think at the moment we are up for everything regardless of what the opponents throw at us. We have the character and the players in the team to take it through, so it’s going well at the moment.”

Norwich will now prepare for two home encounters as they take on Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, followed by Derby County on Saturday, December 29.

Tettey said: “Going into Christmas we know there are a lot of games and a lot of points to grab. We wanted to win at Bristol where we got one point, but the game today was very important heading back to Carrow Road for two huge games, so I think it will be good for the confidence going into those games.

“I think it’s going to be very special. I’ve played many games during the Christmas period and especially at Carrow Road people come in numbers and they will be in good spirits. Hopefully we can deliver as well.

“They are going to be two tough games, Nottingham and Derby are both fighting, they have quality players and they play good football. I’m expecting a tougher game than today and I’m expecting us to play a level up from what we are doing to get something from those two games.”

Commenting on his 200 appearances milestone, Tettey said: “It’s always nice to play many games for a club and I’m very pleased the boys won today. I’m pleased to have played that many games for Nowich and I will keep looking forward.”
