Norwich City Under-23s captain Andrew Omobamidele put Friday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United U23s down to lapses in defensive concentration.
“In the first half we had two one-v-ones and we missed them,” he said. “We had a couple of chances to slip some of our attackers in but it wasn’t falling for us. At this level, if you don’t punish teams, you’ll get punished.
“We lost that bit of concentration on the cross at the back post and they’ve done us. We want to be going into the senior squads and that’s what’s going to happen at the top level - if you switch off once you’ll get punished, so it’s something to learn from.
“In the first half, I think we still could have gone up two or three more gears but we controlled the game. They didn’t even have a sight of goal.
“We came into half-time knowing we dominated the first half but wanting to go out in the second half and be more productive on the ball while keeping that defensive mindset we had during the first half.
“I think we lost a bit of concentration defensively and it kind of turned into an Under-16s game. That can’t happen at the age we’re all at and what we’re trying to do. It was attack v defence and something we need to work on - if you see it happening during a game you have to come together, slow the ball down and take the sting out of the game but we didn’t do that.”
