Norwich City are celebrating 80 years at Carrow Road in 2015, and to mark the anniversary the Club is looking back at a series of the most famous days in the stadium's history.

OUR first trip through the archives takes us to the humble beginnings of City's current residence, which hosted its first competitive match at the start of the 1935-36 Division Two season.

The fixture list threw up an opening day clash with West Ham United on August 31, 1935, with just under 30,000 people in attendance at the newly-constructed arena.

With ten minutes on the clock, home captain Doug Lochhead scored the maiden league goal at Carrow Road in front of what was then known as the Thorpe End - now referred to as 'The Barclay'.

The hosts would go on to win a thrilling game 4-3 to begin life at their new ground in style, although had to wait until September for their next victory on home turf when they defeated Port Vale.

City ended the season in 11th position with 43 points from 42 games, having won 14 of their 21 matches played at Carrow Road.

They would win just three times away from Norfolk in the league that season, with the Club's famous ground - which took just 82 days to build - proving its immediate worth as a bedrock of success.

A decade after writing himself into Canaries folklore, Lochhead himself returned to East Anglia to take in two seperate stints as City manager.

The Glaswegian continued to demonstrate his eye for goals from the dugout, being the man responsible for signing Norwich's all-time leading marksman Johnny Gavin from Irish side Limerick in 1948.
