NORWICH City will welcome three representatives of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as its Community Heroes for the visit of Liverpool to Carrow Road on Saturday (12.45pm).

The trio have been selected not only to acknowledge their selfless dedication to saving lives at sea, but also to represent the many other fearless men and women in the lifeboat service around our coast.

Nigel Lyman, Ben Arlow and Vanessa Haig are all Lowestoft Lifeboat crew members and have been involved in a range of call-outs from a wind farm vessel on fire or de-masted yachts floundering close to sandbanks, in addition to assisting numerous stranded fishing vessels and leisure craft with engine failure.

They and their colleagues are ready to go to sea around the clock and in all weathers, and we ask you to give them a warm welcome as they bring out the matchball ahead of the game in recognition of the dedicated and important life-saving service they and their colleagues at the RNLI provide to our local community.

Lowestoft Lifeboat Operations Manager Paul Carter said: "I’m pleased Norwich City Football Club has recognised the hard work and commitment of the volunteer lifeboat crews.

"It is a really thoughtful gesture for which we want to thank them. I hope the three crew members who are going to Saturday’s match enjoy it and feel proud of their achievements.

"All the crews train to a high standard to ensure that they are ready to cope with any incident. We wish the Canaries all the best on Saturday and for the rest of the season."

RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea and its crews of on-call volunteers provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service.
