A QUINTET of local Olympians and Paralympians will come together on Saturday as Norwich City's KarePlus Community Heroes for the visit of Preston North End to Carrow Road.

Alfie Hewett, Colin Oates, Danny Kerry, Jessica-Jane Applegate MBE and Keith Webb all represented Great Britain at the Rio 2016 games, doing the region - and Great Britain more generally - proud.

Cantley-based Alfie, who was our first KarePlus Community Hero of the 2016-17 season, won two silvers at the Rio Paralympics in wheelchair tennis, following on from his doubles success at Wimbeldon earlier this summer.

Colin, from North Lopham, is part of the British Judo team and in 2016 achieved a personal best to win silver at the European Championships.

He first represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics in the men's 66kg judo, and also competed at this summer's games.

King's Lynn's Danny helped make history at those games, leading Great Britain's women's hockey team to their first ever Olympic gold.

Working as Head Coach of the team since 2004, Danny also oversaw a third-place finish at London 2012 - ensuring Britain collected a medal in Olympic hockey for the first time in two decades.

Jessica-Jane is a British Paralympic swimmer from Great Yarmouth and competes in the S14 classification, making her Paralympic debut at London 2012 at the age of 16.

There, she became the first British S14 swimmer to stand at the top of the Paralympic podium after winning gold in the 200m freestyle.

She has continued to be a success, bringing a 100m backstroke bronze and two silver medals from the 200m individual medley and the 200m freestyle back from Rio 2016.

Finally, Keith will be a familiar name and face to many around Carrow Road, having held a long-term affiliation with the Club.

A former coach with the Canaries, he took on the role of head coach of England's cerebral palsy team at the start of 2014 and led them in Brazil this summer, where they finish fifth.

Please give all five of our special guests a warm Carrow Road welcome this weekend as they bring out the matchball ahead of kick-off.

At every Sky Bet Championship home match, the Canaries will invite a deserving community-minded individual or individuals to be their Kare Plus Community Hero and place the matchball on a special plinth prior to kick-off.

Whether the individual works in the emergency services or the armed forces, is a carer or charity champion, a super fan or a regional sporting hero, the initiative celebrates their contribution to the local community.
