THIS weekend we are proud to welcome three special guests to Carrow Road as part of our Community Hero initiative to represent a very worthy local charity with a Canary twist.

The Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind have nominated two ardent Norwich City fans who between them regularly make a real difference to the lives of people with poor sight in our county.

Julie Lythgoe is about to clock up an extraordinary 40 years on the NNAB staff. She's now the Senior Executive Officer and has close family ties to the football club. Her father-in-law Derrick scored twice in the 1962 League Cup final and brother-in-law Phil played for the Canaries in the late 1970s.

Mark Smith joins her and is the NNAB's Head of Leisure Services and regularly enjoys the audio description service provided at Carrow Road as he is blind.

Joining them at Carrow Road on Saturday is nothing other than a Canary legend, having made 238 appearances for Norwich City and scoring 23 times between 1984 and 1996, he has arguably scored some of the most memorable goals in the Club’s near-114 year history – Jeremy Goss now works for the NNAB as a fundraiser for the charity.

He will join Mark and Julie to bring out the match ball ahead of kick-off and we are delighted to welcome Jerry back so please give them all the warmest of welcomes!

The NNAB provides practical support for thousands of people of all ages with little or no sight in Norfolk. Its services include residential care, a community visiting service, specialist equipment, education and recreation. The charity relies entirely on the generosity of the people of Norfolk.
