England Deaf ladies captain to bring out Saturday's match ball

CITY will be delighted to welcome Community Hero Laura Wiseman to Carrow Road on Saturday.

Laura, 29, is captain of the England Deaf ladies team and was recently nominated for a national Pride of Sport award.

Laura has been playing football ever since she was 18 months old: "My dad is a football fan so he taught me how to play football and I fell in love playing it." She currently plays for Wymondham Ladies and is also involved in the Deaflympics and Team GB in the Deaf World Cup.

At the 2016 Deaf World Cup in Italy, Laura became the second highest goalscorer in the competition and England’s women took home a bronze medal. Laura scored hat-tricks against the hosts Italy in the group stages and Turkey.

After her success in Italy, Laura was anonymously nominated for the Disability sport award in the Pride of Sports awards. "I was so speechless when I got nominated! It meant a lot, after all the hard work I’ve done for so many years," she said. "It was amazing to be one of the last three finalists.

"I have gained confidence and made a lot of friends from all over the country with being involved with deaf football. It means that I have been able to travel the world and show the deaf community that it's possible to follow my dreams.

"My message for others is to not let anything stop you, no matter who you are. If you have a dream, go and achieve it just like I did.

"I'm so thrilled to be a Community Hero. I have achieved loads of things through my football career and I have worked really hard so it means a lot to me."

Please give a big Carrow Road welcome to Laura as she brings out Saturday’s match ball ahead of kick-off.

At every Sky Bet Championship home match, the Canaries will invite a deserving community-minded individual or individuals to be their Kare Plus Community Hero and place the matchball on a special plinth prior to kick-off.

Whether the individual works in the emergency services or the armed forces, is a carer or charity champion, a super fan or a regional sporting hero, the initiative celebrates their contribution to the local community.

If there is anyone you think deserves special recognition for their community efforts or personal achievements, please contact the Club via
