Tettey strikes in Norway's win over Malta

ALEX Tettey netted a crucial goal for Norway to help move them a step closer to qualification for the 2016 European Championship.

City's popular midfielder struck the opener in his country's 2-0 win over Malta in Oslo, with Alexander Soderlund adding his name to the scoresheet in the second half.

Italy's 3-1 victory in Azerbaijan ensured that they remain group leaders on 21 points, while Tettey's team occupy the second automatic qualification place with 19 points.

They meet in Tuesday's last round of qualifiers in Rome at the same time as the other protagonists Croatia - who are two points behind Norway - travel to Malta (7.45pm).

Earlier in the day, City Academy product Harry Toffolo made an impact from the substitutes' bench for England's Under-20s against Turkey.

The left-back replaced Baily Cargill in the 63rd minute and played a major role in Keith Downing's side overturning a deficit to win 2-1 in Ulm.

Ryan Kent brought the young Lions level after Deniz Hummet's opener, then in stoppage time Toffolo provided the assist for Brandon Barker to net a dramatic winner.

England have one game remaining in the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup against hosts Germany, with kick-off at 3pm on Tuesday in Heidenheim.
