Daniel Farke: First half cost us

Daniel Farke bemoaned a poor first-half performance as the reason for Norwich City’s 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

City were two down at the break after Lasse Vibe’s quickfire double and Farke believed his side left themselves too much to do in the second-half.

“In the last [few] games, we were in pretty good shape,” he said, speaking post-match. “I got the feeling today we would have a good chance to win this game.

“To concede a loss is quite hard and yes, it’s a big disappointment today.

“So first-half was not good enough on this level. That was the reason for the loss and although we had two or three really big chances, we were not able to use these chances and perhaps have a closer a result. It was totally okay that it was 0-2 at half-time.

“It was a 100% good reaction from my team and the second-half we scored and had two or three really good chances to score more.

“In general, it was similar to Sheffield Wednesday. We had a good reaction in that second-half and when you have a first-half on this level, you can’t turn the game.

“The first-half was the reason we lost this game.”

Farke was convinced he heaped too much pressure onto his players to get a result.

“I think the lads were too nervous today because when you watch the performance, nothing worked.

“You got the feeling the lads were unbelievably nervous for the game but I don’t blame the lads. I blame myself because I think perhaps I pointed out too much how important this game was and it was a crucial game for us.

“Brentford is a good team and for that I got the feeling the lads were too nervous. They lost their focus.”
