Daniel Farke: We must draw a line under this season quickly

Daniel Farke says it’s important for his players and staff to draw a line under the 2019-20 season so they are fresh and ready to go for the start of next season in around six weeks time.

The Canaries ended their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon after a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

Speaking to after the game, Farke said: “It’s been an unbelievably long season with the lockdown. We have had lots of injuries and many, many odds have been against us.

“We had the momentum before the lockdown and then the worst pandemic for over a century hit. A lot of odds have been against us.

“It’s important right now to draw a line under this season pretty, pretty quickly and to  accept that we are relegated and have a fresh start in a few week’s time.

“It’s a quick turnaround and it’s important that we look forward. Hopefully we’ll have supporters back in our stadium pretty soon too.”

Farke felt the five goal defeat at the Etihad Stadium wasn’t a fair reflection on his side’s efforts.

“If you are honest, we have to say because of our personal situation, we were not able to be competitive. Without any doubt, they are one of the best teams in the world.

“We had many injured and many not available. We had 10 academy products in our game day squad and it’s a sign of our way.

“The lads tried everything today and I think 5-0 is a harsh reflection of this game. We have to accept the loss because Man City was the better side but I feel sorry for my lads because I think the score was a bit harsh.

“Kevin De Bruyne has scored two world class goals in added time in both halves. We have created chances to score at least two or three goals as well.

“To go in the lead through Onel [Hernandez] would have been a massive boost. There was a foul on Marco Stiepermann in the build-up so it feels a bit harsh but we accept this.

“We had many, many chances as well. Teemu Pukki and Josh Martin had good chances, Adam Idah as well, we created a lot and we deserved at least one or two goals today.

“I have no blame or bad words for my lads because they gave everything.”
