Daniel Farke: We scored four times and were really dangerous

Daniel Farke praised the offensive performance of his City side after beating Wycombe Wanderers 4-3 away to progress to Round Four of the Carabao Cup.

The lively game saw a hat-trick from Canaries striker Jordan Rhodes, with a fourth goal from Tom Trybull securing the win at Adams Park.

And Farke said his team deserved the victory.

“We are happy we are through to the next round, that’s the most important thing,” he said. “When you have an away game and for the opponents it is the game of the season then it’s always difficult and not easy to win. But we were there with a good performance and I think it was a more than deserved win so I’m happy.

"Our offense was brilliant. We had many changes today so all the players on the pitch were highly motivated and able to be there with a good performance. Sometimes you think with so many changes it will be difficult with the rhythm, but it was not and our offensive play was brilliant. We scored four times and we were really dangerous.”

Rhodes had a fourth goal disallowed, but Farke was full of praise for the impact he had on the game.

He said: “Jordan has missed a few games and just played five or 10 minutes. But each player is unbelievably important for our success and this was proof again. I’ve praised Jordan in recent weeks so many times and it was a good option for us today to rest Teemu Pukki and play with Jordan and Dennis [Srbeny] behind him.

"Jordan was brilliant, for me he is outstanding in his instinct in the box and in finishing situations he worked a lot for our team and was there with a brilliant attitude. For me he scored four times not three times and big compliments for him.”

The City defence were tested by Wycombe in the final 15 minutes as they looked for an equaliser, and Farke said his players dug deep to deal with their threat.

“It was a big task but we were able to handle it,” he said. “They were a threat with lots of long balls and in one situation we reacted a bit too late and out of this we conceded the third goal. The last 10 or 15 minutes were a bit spicy and much more complicated than we thought because we were far the better side. But you have to keep the nerves down and concentrate in those last minutes.”

He also thanked the 1,500 travelling fans who created a welcoming wall of yellow.

He said: “It’s an away game at a late time on a Tuesday evening so it’s really tricky for our supporters to be here. I expected just the home fans to be there but to be able to play this game in front of a yellow wall is brilliant and I just can’t praise them enough. It was really like a home game for us and we are happy we are able to send them back with a win.”
