David Wright reflected on the final game of the season for City’s Under-23s while also summarising the season as a whole.
His side faced Fulham last night at Motpsur Park, and the Under-23s Coach said he thought his side should have taken some of their glaring opportunities they had in the first half.
Speaking after the game to canaries.co.uk, Wright said: “I think we had two or three real goal scoring chances in the first half that unfortunately we didn’t put away. But we have to do better, we have to take those chances.
“We have got to do better so when the chances come about we’ve got to make sure we take them. But in the first half I don’t think we moved the ball with much tempo, but at times we had spells when we really accelerated our play and that led to creating chances.
“Out of possession, I thought we were slightly on the back foot which allowed them to come on to us a bit, but overall if we had taken our chances then it would have been a different game.”
January signing Akin Famewo started just his second game since joining the Club, and completed his first 90 minutes since returning from injury.
Wright said: “He came in with an injury and the sports science and medical staff have done terrific work with him and we are really pleased he got 90 minutes. This will give him a spring board into pre-season, so he’ll come back fit and healthy to work hard.”
Wright went on to summarise the season as a whole, and said that while it has been a tough season, having such a young squad can only benefit them going into next season.
“In terms of the season it’s been a tough year, we are a really young team," he said. "As I’ve said before we’re much more of an Under-19s team than and Under-23s side.
“It has been tough this year, but I think with the experiences the boys have had – especially the likes of Saul Milovanovic, Louis Lomas, Adam Idah and Isak Thorvaldsson the real young ones, they are 20 to 25 games more experienced at Under-23s level.
“I think that will really benefit them as individuals, but it will also really help us as a team going into next year.”
