Farke updates on latest training plans

Norwich City’s first team players will work to a reduced training schedule after confirmation of the postponement of match fixtures following the recent coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

On Friday it was announced that the club’s initially scheduled Premier League game against Southampton and FA Cup tie against Manchester United would not take place.

Following medical advice and detailed discussions between the club’s staff, over the coming period the first team squad will now operate to a reduced training schedule.

A monitored period of rest and recuperation for the first team players will be permitted, whilst those who are currently injured will continue to work to their respective rehabilitation programmes.

Head Coach Daniel Farke told “At this time, football is not the most important topic. The most important thing is the safety of our staff, players and supporters.

“We know we have to act carefully and responsibly during what is a stormy and crazy time for society. We have a duty to look after those around us.

“Yes, we are working with football players here in Norwich City, but also we are working with human beings. We must have a responsible training schedule and we must all be in a good physical and mental state to be prepared for every opportunity. Having a balance between training and rest is important.

“We continue to take advice from doctors and medical staff and will be careful with our training methods. We’ll prepare as best as we can, but we’re being especially careful in this period.

“The period will allow for some of our injured players to continue their work. The likes of Onel Hernandez, Timm Klose, Sam Byram – these players have had tough moments, but they can focus their work over this time.

“We also have to thank all of our supporters, for understanding and being with us in this difficult time. We know everyone wants to see us playing football, but in this moment we wish people to stay safe and act carefully. It is a difficult time, but we will see everyone on the other side.”

The club’s Under-23 and Under-18 sides will also operate to a similar reduced training schedule over the upcoming period.
