JONNY Howson admitted to a sense of inevitability after putting Norwich City on their way to a 2-0 win over boyhood side Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

The midfielder broke the deadlock shortly before the hour-mark with a tidy finish, before Graham Dorrans secured victory in injury-time.

Having played a starring role on his return to Yorkshire, Howson told Norwich City TV after the game: "It was one of those things that just seemed to happen.

"It was great play down the left-hand side and you always know Nathan Redmond is going to create something when he's running with the ball. He laid it off to me and I felt as if I had a bad touch but as soon as I hit it I knew it had a chance.

"Obviously I'm very pleased we managed to get the win, and both sets of fans made it an event you wanted to play in. We knew it was going to be difficult and we'd said how every game for the rest of the season is going to be like that.

"It was 1-0 for a long time so it was nice to wrap it up at the end with a great finish from Dozzer."

The result saw Alex Neil's men maintain their Sky Bet Championship promotion charge, with close rivals Bournemouth and Middlesbrough also collecting maximum points.

City face the latter in their next outing at Carrow Road on Friday evening, with Howson commenting: "It will be a massive game as there's one point between us, so we've got to focus on that now.

"It's one less game to go, and nothing changes. First and foremost we've got to concentrate on ourselves.

"If we take care of that then it's irrelevant what the others do."
