In Focus: Teemu Pukki

Question marks surrounding whether Pukki could make the step up to the Premier League were squashed in August when he took the topflight by storm.

In doing so, the Finn was named Premier Leage Player of the Month thanks to five goals and one assist in his opening four games.

But what are his top three performances for the 2019-20 season as a whole? Let's take a look.

3. Chelsea (H)

First up, we have August's 3-2 defeat at home to Frank Lampard's new-look Chelsea, in which Pukki registered two shots, one goal, one assist, and a pass completion rate of 75 percent.

Those figures contributed to an overall rating of 7.80 on Pukki showed fighting spirit to twice play a part in equalising goals, first by setting up Todd Cantwell with a one-two just three minutes after Tammy Abraham had opened the scoring.

Mason Mount made it 2-1 to the visitors with 17 minutes played, before Pukki squeezed the ball through Kepa from a narrow angle having been played through on goal by Emi Buendia.

2. Arsenal (H)

Marginally better, at least statistically-speaking, than that performance against Chelsea was Pukki's display at home to Arsenal in December's 2-2 draw.

Pukki again netted one of the two shots he took in the game, but this time had an improved pass completion of 78.6 percent, impressive considering he attempted six more passes than against Chelsea.

While he didn't get any assists, he did make one key pass and three successful dribbles, culminating in an overall rating of 7.90, outperforming all Arsenal players, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, despite the latter’s brace. Let's remind ourselves of the goal, shall we?

1. Newcastle United (H)

It should come as no surprise whatsoever that this performance takes the crown. A hat-trick, 100 percent pass completion, and a perfect ten out of ten rating on It doesn't get much better than that.

Newcastle learned the hard way not to give Pukki a sight of goal, his seven shots four more than anyone else on the pitch, one of them a cracking volley past Martin Dubravka’s near post.

What a way to announce yourself at the highest level. We can watch those highlights again can't we? It would be rude not to.
