Four Canaries in action on Wednesday night

WHEN Canaries goalkeeper John Ruddy replaced Birmingham’s Jack Butland at half time in Switzerland on Wednesday night, he became the seventh Norwich City player to win an England cap.

The 25-year-old shot stopper now joins former City stars Phil Boyer, Kevin Reeves, Mark Barham, Dave Watson, Chris Woods, and Robert Green on the list of players to have been capped by England whilst at Carrow Road.

Ruddy’s flawless second half display against Italy at Stade de Suisse, Berne – in which he made several excellent saves, helped England secure an impressive 2-1 win over their Euro 2012 conquerors courtesy of goals from Phil Jagielka and Jermaine Defoe.

Roy Hodgson had initially named Ruddy in his Euro 2012 squad, until a broken finger cruelly forced the City star to withdraw after just his second training session.

Elsewhere there were two Canaries in action for Scotland on their way to a comfortable 3-1 win over Australia at Easter Road.

Robert Snodgrass played the full 90 minutes, whilst defender Russ Martin came on to replace Alan Hutton in the 64th minute, both players putting in solid performances.

Goals from Jordan Rhodes, Ross McCormack, and a Jason Davidson own-goal were enough to secure the win, despite Marco Breciano’s opening strike.

Striker Steve Morison was also involved in international action on Wednesday as a second half substitute for Wales in their 2-0 defeat to Bosnia Herzegovina in Llanelli.

Vedad Ibisevic and Miroslav Stevanovic put the visitors ahead well before Morison made his entrance as a 70th minute sub for Sam Vokes, but Chris Coleman’s side were unable to claw back the deficit.
