Maddison, 21, joins the 2015-16 Premier League champions for an undisclosed fee on a five-year deal.

Maddison signed for Norwich from Coventry City in January 2016, and was immediately loaned back to the Sky Blues for the remainder of the season.

He made his City debut at the start of the 2016-17 season in a 6-1 win over Coventry in the EFL Cup, before he went on loan to Aberdeen in the SPL for the first half of the campaign.

Maddison returned to City in January and made his Championship debut in April away at Preston North End, where he came off the bench and marked the occasion with his first goal for the Club.

Given a new contract at the start of last season, Maddison was immediately part of Daniel Farke’s first-team plans and he made 49 appearances for City across all competitions. He ended the campaign as Norwich’s top-scorer with 15 goals and was awarded the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy as City’s Player of the Season.

Norwich City’s Sporting Director Stuart Webber said: “We would like to wish James well in his move to the Premier League and we are sure he will be a success. We have been fortunate to watch James turn from a boy into a man in a football sense and when this opportunity came up it was too good for him to turn down.

“Obviously we’re disappointed to lose a player of James’s quality and character but, with our financial position well-documented, in the end it was too good an offer to turn down.

“To achieve a record transfer fee for a player moving to the Premier League from the Championship who hasn’t previously played in the Premier League is a testament to James, his teammates and Daniel Farke, who has put so much trust in James. James would be the first to admit that without a coach who put as much faith in him as Daniel did, he wouldn’t be making this dream move.

“It’s now time to look forward. The fixtures are out on Thursday and we have time to make sure we assemble as strong a squad as possible for Daniel to have a successful season and to build on the last 12 months.”
