'Keeper looks ahead to City's next adventure

JOHN Ruddy is eager to start Norwich City’s Premier League project after his clean sheet helped the Canaries to play-off final victory over Middlesbrough.

The England international stopper played every minute of City’s Sky Bet Championship campaign, culminating in him securing his second promotion with the Club on an unforgettable afternoon at Wembley Stadium.

Ruddy was already looking to next season when speaking to reporters in the joyful aftermath on Bank Holiday Monday.

“We’re looking forward to building on this victory and making sure that we maintain our Premier League status,” said the commanding ‘keeper.

“When you step up to the Premier League, you’re probably almost always looking at adding a few bodies.

“I think that’s something we’ll look at, but at the same time the squad we’ve got here is very good. We saw that at Wembley, so it’s about adding the right bodies.

“We did that this year, and it’s all about progressing so we’ll do it again next year. We’ve got a fantastic young manager who will lead us along the way.

“Hopefully we’ll stay in the Premier League, that’s what it’s all about.”

Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond goals wrapped up a deserving victory for Alex Neil’s men, with Ruddy’s only meaningful concerns coming when Jelle Vossen rattled the woodwork and Patrick Bamford forced a save midway through the second half.

Earning promotion via the Championship’s showpiece match was the perfect way to make a swift return to the top flight, according to the goalkeeper.

“The play-offs is the best way to do it, but obviously you can never guarantee that. We did it through solid professionalism and it was a very, very good team performance,” added Ruddy.

“Middlesbrough have got very good players going forward, so we knew that we had to be on our guard. We had to maintain our standards.

“If you get two goals in the first 15 minutes – they done something similar to us at our place, they got an early goal and sat back, so in that sense it’s nice to get something over them.”
