Midfielder sees off competition from Robbie Brady and Wes Hoolahan

JONNY Howson has collected the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy having been voted as Norwich City's 2015-16 Anglian Home Improvements Player of the Season.

The 27-year-old was presented with the trophy by Barry Butler's widow Thelma Cooper ahead of City's game against Watford on Wednesday night, with 2016 marking 50 years since the iconic former defender's tragic death at the age of 31.

Howson follows in the footsteps of a number of notable previous winners, including the likes of Terry Allcock, Duncan Forbes, Martin Peters, Darren Huckerby and Grant Holt.

He made 39 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring four times, before his campaign was ended prematurely by an injury picked up in City's recent 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Up until that point, Howson was the only City player to feature in every single league match over the course of the season having signed a new four-year deal in August of last year.

Summer recruit Robbie Brady was voted by City fans as runner-up, while Wes Hoolahan took third place.
