The City midfielder, 26, picked up a ligament injury in the 3-1 Carabao Cup Round One win over Stevenage and has since been sidelined from action.

After featuring in all three of City's opening matches, the injury halted what was a positive start to life in England for the Scottish international.

Speaking at the launch of City's new partnership with airline Loganair, McLean said: "I came on at half-time in that [Stevenage] game and I think it was five minutes into the half when it happened.

"I played on which probably didn’t help it. But that’s behind me now and I just need to look forward and get back fit as soon as possible.

"The recovery is going pretty well. Originally, we looked at between four and six weeks and it’s been just over four now so I think I’m maybe a bit behind schedule.

"I’m aiming [to be back] towards the end of this month for the Wigan game, possibly the Wycombe game."

McLean joined up with the City squad in the summer after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal in January which saw him loaned back to former club Aberdeen for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

He admitted that it was frustrating to pick up an injury so soon after settling into the squad and life at Norwich City.

"I had plenty of time to come down and get settled in between January – I was flying down pretty often looking at houses and training with the team and getting to know the boys," he added.

"It was easy for me to settle in when I did come here in the summer and I found my feet pretty quickly.

"You want to do as well as you can as soon as you get to a new club. I’d done well in the previous couple of games and then to get this injury is disappointing.

"It happens in this game. You’re professional enough to deal with it and as I said, I’ve been working hard to get myself fit and back on the pitch helping the boys."
