Kenny McLean: We are showing we can play in different situations

City had to dig in at times in south Yorkshire and show defensive solidity to deal with the host’s aerial threat but they did so and grinded out an important three points.

Speaking to canaries.co.uk post-match, McLean said: “You could see what it meant at the end to everybody. The boys are absolutely delighted with the three points.

“We’ve sent the fans home happy again. It’s all about digging in with conditions like this. It was tough, it’s a tight pitch and we came up against a good opposition.

“But we handled it well, even when Rotherham got the equaliser. We handled it perfectly and could have scored again on the break.

“It’s all about three points at this stage of the season. The way that we are grinding them out when we need to is excellent.

“It shows our character. We’ve went to tough venues and played excellent, especially at the Leeds game.

“You come here and we know it’s going to be a totally different game altogether and we’ve shown once again we can change the way we play.

“We can match teams if they want to come and battle. It shows the character of the boys. To a man, you can see what it meant.”

City were backed by a 2,615-strong away support which covered the whole of one end at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. The Scot said their encouragement for the team got them over the line.

“The boys are delighted and the fans were once again incredible. They filled the stand and it drives us on. Rotherham had a go at the end but we all stick together, the boys, fans and everybody.

“The timing is excellent. Long may it continue, we’re grinding out wins in different ways. We’re playing when we can and digging in when we can. We’ve showed a bit of everything and the momentum we’re showing is vital.

“We’ve got a good lead at the top and it’s in our own hands. That’s what we want and it’s a challenge that we’re excited about.”
