TONY Andreu played a starring role as Dundee United lifted the Scottish Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Playmaker Andreu, on a season-long loan deal from the Canaries, scored a stunning volley with the outside of his foot to open the scoring in the first half.

Rory Loy immediately levelled for opponents St Mirren at Fir Park but Thomas Mikkelson's header 15 minutes from the end ensured that the Tangerines lifted the trophy for the first time.

Commenting on his memorable 17th goal of the campaign, Andreu said afterwards: "He (the defender) hit my pass out and when it came back to me, I just took my chance and hit it.

"My game is all about reacting quickly and, when the ball is around the edge of the penalty area, I’m going to hit it. I’ve scored a few goals like that this season and, fortunately, I took my chance perfectly."

The Frenchman was the only one of City's loan exports in action over the weekend.

Harry Toffolo wasn't in Scunthorpe United's squad for their 3-2 Sky Bet League One win over Bradford City on Sunday, while Carlton Morris' Rotherham United, Declan Rudd's Charlton Athletic and Remi Matthews' Hamilton Academical didn't have fixtures.
