MK DONS' relegation from the Sky Bet Championship was confirmed by a 4-1 home defeat to Brentford on Saturday, with Josh Murphy playing 90 minutes.

The hosts initially went in front through Nicky Maynard's early strike, only for Segi Canos to quickly level for the Bees.

Striker Lasse Vibe put Brentford in front in the opening minutes of the second half, before Ryan Woods and Jack Bidwell netted to seal the fate of Karl Robinson's side.

At the other end of the table, Sheffield Wednesday are within touching distance of a play-off spot following their 1-1 draw at Derby County.

Defender Michael Turner missed out on the matchday squad but his side remain in sixth place, sitting four points ahead of Cardiff City who they face in their next game.

It was more of a midtable affair when Huddersfield Town and Kyle Lafferty's Birmingham City played out a 1-1 draw in Yorkshire; the frontman playing 66 minutes for the visitors.

A superb free-kick from David Cotterill put Birmingham in front on 73 minutes, but they were denied victory eight minutes from time when Joel Lynch fired home from close range.

In Sky Bet League One, goalkeeper Remi Matthews kept a clean sheet for Doncaster Rovers to help keep their once improbable survival hopes alive with two matches left to play.

First half goals from Tommy Rowe and Andy Williams guided Rovers to an invaluable 2-0 home success over Coventry City, meaning they are now three points shy of Fleetwood in 20th.

The result means Doncaster have now collected seven points from their past three games, giving them hope of pulling off an incredible escape given their perilous situation a few weeks ago.

It also sees one-time promotion hopefuls Coventry slip to 12th, with City's January recruit James Maddison coming on as a substitute in place of Academy graduate Jacob Murphy on 69 minutes.

Elsewhere, Swindon Town mathematically guaranteed their place in the third tier for next season with a 1-0 home win over Chesterfield.

Jake Kean and Louis Thompson both completed 90 minutes for the Robins, with Yaser Kasim's 77th minute strike settling the contest ahead of Charlie Raglan being sent off for Chesterfield late on.

Peterborough United parted company with manager Graham Westley in the aftermath of their 2-0 defeat to emerging play-off outsiders Scunthorpe United at London Road.

An own goal from Ricardo Santos put the Iron in front, ahead of Tom Hopper wrapping things up with 14 minutes of normal time left to play.

Harry Toffolo missed out on the matchday squad for Peterborough, who have lost their last five league games.

Fellow youngster Jamar Loza also missed out on Southend United's matchday squad as they were convincingly beaten 4-1 at Wigan Athletic, who effectively secured promotion with victory.

In the Vanarama National League, Woking are destined to finish firmly in midtable after a 3-2 triumph at Lincoln City; a game in which Cameron Norman played 72 minutes.

Strikes from Kieran Murtagh and Bruno Andrade gave Woking a 2-0 lead at the break, only for two Lincoln goals in as many minutes early in the second half to see them pegged back.

However, the Cards secured victory with three minutes remaining when John Goddard fired low into the corner of the net.

A tier further down, Lowestoft Town edged closer to Vanarama National League North safety with a dramatic 1-1 draw at Tamworth.

Town secured a precious point deep into injury-time when Adam Smith curled home a free-kick, moving them two points above the drop-zone while also having a game in hand on all their rivals.

Goalkeeper Ben Killip wasn't involved for Lowestoft, who can secure their place in the division when they host third-placed North Ferriby United on Tuesday night.

Over the border, Carlton Morris notched a brace for Hamilton Academical on Sunday as they earned a 3-1 win at Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.

The City youngster provided the assist for Grant Gillespie's opener, before converting twice from inside the box during the second half to give his side a 3-0 lead.

United pulled a goal back with one minute of normal time remaining through Simon Murray, but it proved to only be a consolation as Accies extended the gap between themselves and Kilmarnock.

Finally, Ricky van Wolfswinkel featured as a 70th minute substitute as Real Betis were beaten 2-0 at Sevilla in Spain's La Liga.
