Six players in weekend action

JOSH Murphy was unable to prevent MK Dons from falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to ten-man Nottingham Forest in his final loan appearance for the club on Saturday.

Norwich-born Chris Cohen headed Forest in front in the opening ten minutes, before Murphy's measured cross was converted by Nicky Maynard to level affairs.

Forest saw Danny Fox dismissed before the interval but secured victory in the closing stages when Britt Assombalonga struck for the first time since returning from long-term injury.

Murphy's impressive personal form for the Dons was duly recognised last week when the City Academy graduate was named as their Players' Player of the Year.

Thanks to the fans for their constant support its been great! Gonna miss all the lads.. esp these boys!

Michael Turner played 90 minutes as Sheffield Wednesday prepared for their play-off campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Wolves.

The defender inadvertently diverted a Matt Doherty cross into his own net with seven minutes played, before George Saville doubled the lead before half-time.

Lewis McGugan notched a consolation from the penalty-spot in the final minute, with Wednesday set to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the upcoming play-offs.

Striker Kyle Lafferty was left out of the matchday squad as Birmingham City drew 1-1 at Cardiff City to end the season in tenth place.

In Sky Bet League One, James Maddison missed out on a farewell appearance for Coventry City, but Jacob Murphy featured as a second half substitute during their 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic.

Murphy's introduction provided the catalyst for the Sky Blues to win their final game of the campaign, providing the assists for goals from Romain Vincelot and Adam Armstrong.

My time at @Coventry_City is now over. 13 years, 42 first team games, hundreds of friends and tonnes of memories! I have loved every...(1/2)

Harry Toffolo was left out of the matchday squad as Peterborough United rounded off their season with a thumping 5-1 win over Blackpool at London Road.

The visitors led at the interval through Jacob Blyth, only to ultimately be relegated to the third tier as Posh rattled in five goals in the second period - including a hat-trick from Jon Taylor.

Blackpool will be joined in Sky Bet League One next year by Doncaster Rovers after Remi Matthews' side was held to a 0-0 draw at home to Burton Albion.

Needing an improbable set of results to survive on the final day, Matthews kept a clean sheet during a game of few chances which secured Burton's maiden promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

I want to wish the players, staff and fans all the best for next season, @drfc_official massive club with a big future

Elsewhere, Jamar Loza was an unused substitute as Southend United went down 3-2 to Bury, having twice been in front.

The contest was settled deep into injury-time when Ryan Lowe netted a penalty for his second goal of the game, signing off from his final Shakers game in style.

Midfielder Louis Thompson missed Swindon Town's 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town through suspension, having been dismissed in last weekend's 2-2 draw at Rochdale.

Over the border, Carlton Morris scored the only goal as Hamilton Academical secured their Scottish Premiership status by winning 1-0 at Dundee.

The 20-year-old forward is ending the season in fine form, netting a crucial four goals in his most recent five appearances to ensure his side remain in the top-flight.

Made up about the result today, was a grind but well worth it. @acciesfc a deserved SPL club again next season ❤️🔴⚪️

Further afield, Ricky van Wolfswinkel featured as a late substitute during Real Betis' 1-1 draw at Eibar in Spain's La Liga.

Finally, Ben Killip started in goal last Wednesday as Lowestoft Town won the Suffolk Premier Cup with a 3-1 win over Leiston.
