Loan Round-Up: Godfrey helps Shrewsbury move up to second

Shrewsbury Town moved back into the Sky Bet League One automatic promotion spots with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Oxford United at Montgomery Waters Meadow on Easter Monday.

Goals either side of half-time from Simon Whalley and Jon Nolan put Salop two up but Wes Thomas reduced the arrears on 62 minutes.

Shortly after, Whalley added his second and Shrewsbury’s third before Joe Rothwell netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Ahead of Shrewsbury’s Checkatrade Trophy final with Lincoln City this coming weekend at Wembley, Ben Godfrey completed 90 minutes but Carlton Morris was an unused substitute.

In the same division, Remi Matthews’ Plymouth Argyle dropped out of the play-off positions after their match with Scunthorpe United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Yanic Wildschut was introduced as a late substitute as Cardiff City scored a stoppage time equaliser to draw 1-1 at Sheffield United.

Leon Clarke scored a first-half opener for the Blades but former Canary Anthony Pilkington struck a minute into injury time to secure a crucial point for Neil Warnock’s side.

In League Two, Paul Jones was an unused substitute as Exeter City came from behind to strengthen their promotion ambitions in a 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town.

Elsewhere in the fourth tier, Diallang Jaiyesimi did not feature in Grimsby Town’s defeat at Wycombe Wanderers and Adam Phillips didn’t play because of Cambridge United’s game at Morecambe being postponed.

In the National League, Torquay United came out on top in a relegation battle with Woking at Plainmoor.

Michee Efete was an unused substitute for the Gulls but Louis Ramsay played 81 minutes for the Cards.

Ebou Adams’ game with Leyton Orient at home to Maidenhead United was postponed on Monday due to a waterlogged pitch.

Abroad, Todd Cantwell missed Fortuna Sittard’s 3-0 victory over Helmond Sport through injury and in non-league, Mildenhall Town’s match with Norwich United was postponed, leaving Jake Hallett without a game on Monday.
