The third-tier team held their more illustrious opponents to a 0-0 draw, forcing a replay at the Hammers' London Stadium.

Godfrey shielded the defence superbly in a disciplined display from the hosts, who were determinedly led in attack by fellow City youngster Carlton Morris.

Salop were the better of the sides for much of the contest, with Godfrey completing 90 minutes while Morris was withdrawn with eight minutes left to play.

Speaking after the match, Morris told the media: "The atmosphere was sensational.

"We should have gone on and won the game, but that's football. It shows how far we've come that we're disappointed to come away with a draw against a Premier League team."

Another lower-league side to face Premier League opposition was Exeter City, who fell to a 2-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Early goals from Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez settled the contest, with goalkeeper Paul Jones an unused substitute for the Grecians.

In Sky Bet League One, fellow stopper Remi Matthews helped Plymouth Argyle continue their fine form with a 3-0 triumph over Bury.

Goals from Toumani Diagouraga, Graham Carey and Antoni Sarcevic saw them collect all three points, lifting the one-time strugglers up to 12th in the process.

A level further down, Diallang Jaiyesimi featured as a late substitute during Grimsby Town's 2-0 home defeat to Morecambe.

First half efforts from veteran Kevin Ellison and Steven Old gave the visitors victory, leaving Grimsby 15th in Sky Bet League Two.

In the National League, Louis Ramsay's Woking played out a remarkable 4-4 draw at home to Maidstone United.

The hosts took the lead twice in the opening period, only to be pegged back on each occasion before Jai Reason's penalty gave the visitors a half-time lead.

Charlie Carter levelled for Woking on 50 minutes, ahead of Stuart Lewis' second of the game restoring Maidstone's advantage shortly after.

On the hour-mark, Jason Banton netted the eight goal of the afternoon to pull Woking level at 4-4 - with the game remaining that way until its conclusion.

Young defender Ramsay played the full match for Woking, as did Michee Efete for Torquay United who suffered a 4-0 defeat at promotion-chasing Wrexham.

Finally, Marcel Franke started for Dynamo Dresden in their 2-1 friendly defeat to Wolfsburg following the German winter break.
