Hughton praises quality of equaliser in 1-1 draw with Swansea

CHRIS Hughton described Gary Hooper’s equaliser as a 'bit of brilliance’ after the striker earned Norwich City a point against Swansea City with a 30-yard volley.

The match finished 1-1 after the visitors had earlier taken the lead through Nathan Dyer, but Hughton thinks his team more than merited a share of the spoils – and on another day could have taken all three points.

“We were close a few times - you need that little bit of quality, that little bit of guile or that little bit of fortune and you get that winner,” he said when speaking to after the game.

“When you go behind like we did, you’re always looking first for that opportunity to get back into the game and then you can build from there.

“There’s no doubt that the goal was a fantastic goal, and we needed that bit of brilliance to get back in the game. He’s a finisher, but even someone like Gary would admit it was a special goal.”

Hughton admitted that there’s always an element of disappointment when an opportunity for victory is missed on home turf, but also recognised the quality of the League Cup holders in opposition.

“I think you’re always frustrated because it was a really good opportunity, especially seeing how the results went at the weekend and that it was a home game that you really want to win,” he added.

“Irrespective of the week that they’ve had, they’re a very good side Swansea and they play a style of football that they’re very well drilled at.

“Sometimes when the game finishes, on the balance of play – looking at what they have on the counter-attack – it’s also important that you don’t lose the game as we’re on a decent run at the moment.”
