Mario Vrancic: It's taken time to adjust

Mario Vrancic says it's taken time to find his feet at Norwich City, but that he now feels equipped for the Sky Bet Championship.

The former Darmstadt 98 midfielder admits he didn't hit top form early on in the season, with recent weeks seeing him grow into his role in Danel Farke's squad.

Speaking candidly to the media ahead of City's weekend trip to Leeds, Vrancic said: "It's always hard to judge yourself, but I was struggling a little bit at the beginning.

"I think the criticism I had was justified. I've analysed my game and looked to improve.

"Some players need time to get used to different football and to a different league. I think this was my case.

"I've gone back to basics. That was the key. People expected more and I expected more.

"Unfortunately I couldn't deliver what I can, but I've improved in the last few weeks."

After featuring in a number of positions throughout this year's campaign, the 28-year-old has established himself in a deeper central role of late, often alongside Harrison Reed.

"I've played at number six lately, which is something I like," he added.

"If you win challenges and duels there, you have more space to play. I want to help the team with assists and goals but if I give everything to help us win it doesn't matter who scores.

"Hopefully I can continue like the last two or three weeks from here. Everyone has helped me, which is important for my personality too.

"We waited a long time for a win. It was very important and we want to take that into the Leeds game."
